There was a surprise result when thirteenth ranked Bizkaia Bilbao (1-1) defeated at home higher ranked Real Madrid (1-1) 86-82. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 24-14. But Real Madrid won third quarter 25-18. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Bizkaia Bilbao made 20-of-24 charity shots (83.3 percent) during the game. American center D'or Fischer (211-81, college: W.Virginia) notched 10 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists to lead the effort and Croatian forward Marko Banic (205-84) supported him with 13 points and 6 rebounds. Even 18 points and 7 rebounds by international power forward Felipe Reyes (203-80) did not help to save the game for Real Madrid. International guard Rudy Fernandez (197-85) added 17 points and 5 rebounds for the guests. Five Bizkaia Bilbao and four Real Madrid players scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players in such tough game. Bizkaia Bilbao left bottom position moving up to sixth place, which they share with 7 other teams including defeated Real Madrid. Bizkaia Bilbao's next round opponent will be FIATC Joventut (#10) in Badalona.
