Regular Season Round 7: Penarol - Obras 79-81

A very close game took place in Mar del Plata between Obras and Penarol. Third ranked Obras (4-3) got a very close victory on the road over their biggest opponent Penarol (6-3). Obras managed to escape with a 2-point win 81-79 on Friday evening. The guests trailed by 7 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 4-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 81-79. Obras dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Penarol's 24. They outrebounded Penarol 41-30 including 32 on the defensive glass. International power forward Juan Gutierrez (205-83) fired a double-double by scoring 16 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. American swingman James Maye (201-81, college: NC-Greensboro) chipped in 14 points and 7 rebounds. Guard Facundo Campazzo (180-91) produced 28 points, 7 rebounds and 8 assists and international forward Leonardo Gutierrez (200-78) added 13 points respectively for lost side. Obras have a solid series of four victories in a row. Despite that victory Obras went down to fifth position due to points difference. Defending champion Penarol still keeps top place with three games lost. Obras will meet league's second-placed Wuber-Est.Bahia in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Penarol will play against Club 9 in Rio Tercero and hope to secure a win.
