The game in Kanagawa supposed to be also quite interesting. Third ranked Hitachi Sunrockers (3-1) played at the court of bottom-ranked Toshiba Thunders (0-4). Hitachi Sunrockers smashed Toshiba Thunders 89-42 on Friday. The game was mostly controlled by Hitachi Sunrockers. Toshiba Thunders was better in fourth quarter 17-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Hitachi Sunrockers dominated on the defensive end, holding Toshiba Thunders to just 7 points in first quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Toshiba Thunders' 28. Hitachi Sunrockers had a 37-26 advantage in offensive rebounds. American power forward Jamar Smith (206-80, college: Maryland) orchestrated the victory by scoring 14 points and 8 rebounds. Swedish forward Christian Maraker (206-82, college: Pacific) contributed with 8 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. American forward Chris Moss (204-80, college: W.Virginia) replied with 6 points and 9 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) and the former international swingman Shohei Kikuchi (190-85) added 8 points in the effort for Toshiba Thunders. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Hitachi Sunrockers moved-up to second place. Loser Toshiba Thunders still closes the standings with four games lost.
