Regular Season Round 4: Menorca - Clavijo 89-87

There was a surprise result when thirteenth ranked Menorca Basquet (2-2) edged higher ranked CB Clavijo (2-2) in Mahon 89-87 on Friday. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 21-15. But CB Clavijo won second period 25-20. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Menorca Basquet looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists comparing to just 10 passes made by CB Clavijo's players. Worth to mention a great performance of center Oliver Arteaga (211-83) who helped to win the game recording 26 points and 5 rebounds (on 12-of-15 shooting from the field). Power forward Roberto Morentin (206-81, college: Cent.Florida) contributed with 14 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Four Menorca Basquet players scored in double figures. American point guard Mathew Witt (183-84, college: E.Kentucky) replied with 25 points and 5 assists and naturalized American forward Jeffrey Bonds (199-82, college: Cal Poly Pomona) added 14 points and 7 rebounds in the effort for CB Clavijo. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Menorca Basquet moved-up to sixth place, which they share with 7 other teams including defeated CB Clavijo. Menorca Basquet will have a break next round.
