Regular Season Round 3: Borgotaro - Alghero 59-66

Date: October 15, 2011
Everything could happen at the game between two tied teams. Both sixth ranked Alghero and 10th ranked Borgotaro had identical 1-1 record. But Borgotaro was not able to use a home court advantage and was defeated by the opponent from Alghero 66-59 on Saturday night. The game without a history. Alghero led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Borgotaro to just 7 points in first quarter. Borgotaro was plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was Bulgarian power forward Radostina Slavova-Naneva (188-86) who scored 16 points and 8 rebounds. Guard Cristina Mei (179-85) chipped in 13 points. At the other side the best for losing team was guard Gloria Marchini (171-84) who recorded 20 points and 6 rebounds and forward Silvia Martini (178-87) added 14 points and 9 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) respectively. Borgotaro's coach Marcello Degli Espositi tested ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Alghero (2-1) moved-up to third place in North, which they share with 3 other teams. Loser Borgotaro dropped to the eighth position with two games lost. Alghero will face league's leader Meccanica NB in Bologna in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Borgotaro will play on the road against Virtus Cagliari (#11).
