Regular Season Round 5: Komarno - Nitra 98-84

There was a change at the Extraliga leadership position after last games. Round 5 most important game was a defeat of league's leader Nitra (3-2). They were defeated by sixth ranked Komarno (2-2) 98-84 on Saturday night. Nitra was tied after three quarters but could not keep up in the last quarter eventually losing the game. 24 personal fouls committed by Nitra helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. American guard Johnathon Jones (183-88, college: Oakland, agency: Warren Sports International) stepped up and scored 26 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists for the winners and Slovenian forward Sinisa Bilic (201-89) chipped in 15 points and 7 rebounds. American swingman Robert Vaden (196-85, college: UAB) responded with 30 points and 6 rebounds (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field) and the former international center Branislav Tomek (205-83) scored 18 points and 6 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Komarno moved-up to fifth place. Nitra at the other side dropped to the fourth position with two games lost. They were replaced at the leadership position by Nova Ves. Nitra will have a break next week, which should allow them to rest and make it back to the top of the standings. Komarno will try to continue on its current victory against sixth ranked Handlova on the road.
