The game had a very big importance for third-ranked Nova Ves as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Nova Ves defeated 5th ranked Handlova at home 98-80. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Handlova. The game without a history. Nova Ves led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Handlova's 26. Nova Ves forced 20 Handlova turnovers. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 25 assists. Handlova was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. International center Michal Batka (204-87) nailed 22 points and 9 rebounds for the winning side and American guard Corey Jefferson (183-85, college: Texas St.) accounted for 13 points, 5 rebounds, 13 assists and 4 steals. Jefferson is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Four Nova Ves players scored in double figures. Nova Ves' coach Jerzy Chudeusz allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. American swingman Anthony Jones (194-84, college: Indiana Tech) came up with 23 points and 8 rebounds and Croatian power forward Ivan Barisic (201-84) added 16 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line) respectively for Handlova in the defeat. As mentioned above they took over a top position. Handlova at the other side dropped to the sixth place with three games lost. They share the position with Levice. Handlova will play next round against Komarno trying to get back on the winning streak. Nova Ves will try to continue on its current victory against seventh ranked Levice on the road.
