There was a surprise result in Warszawa where tenth ranked AZS II Polit.W-wa (2-2) defeated one of their biggest challengers UMKS Kielce (2-2) 89-83 on Sunday. The hosts trailed by 13 points after three quarters before their 36-17 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Strangely UMKS Kielce outrebounded AZS II Polit.W-wa 45-29 including 18 on the offensive glass. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when AZS II Polit.W-wa made 11 blocks. Point guard Sebastian Kowalczyk (182-93) fired 31 points and 6 assists for the winners. Forward Maciej Kucharek (204-93) chipped in a double-double by scoring 22 points and 10 rebounds. Forward Lukasz Fafara (194-84) produced a double-double by scoring 13 points, 12 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals and forward Wojciech Miernik (194-88) added 13 points and 11 rebounds respectively for lost side. Four UMKS Kielce players scored in double figures. UMKS Kielce's coach Rafal Gil rotated eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. AZS II Polit.W-wa moved-up to fifth place in Group C, which they share with 5 other teams including defeated UMKS Kielce. AZS II Polit.W-wa will face UKS Siemaszka (#8) in Piekary in the next round. UMKS Kielce will play at home against the league's second-placed Unia Tarnow.
