Regular Season Round 3: Pyrinto II - Oulun NMKY 88-103

Everything could happen in Tampere at the game between two tied teams. Both seventh ranked Oulun NMKY and 9th ranked Pyrinto II had identical 1-1 record. But Pyrinto II was not able to use a home court advantage and lost to the opponent from Oulun 103-88 on Sunday night. The game was mostly controlled by Oulun NMKY. Pyrinto II managed to win second period 26-23. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Oulun NMKY won last quarter 33-20. Oulun NMKY outrebounded Pyrinto II 36-24 including 25 on the defensive glass. It was a great evening for American point guard Lloyd Phillips (178-85, college: Illinois St.) who led his team to a victory scoring 39 points (!!!), 5 assists and 5 steals. His fellow American import forward Josh Nofflet (194-88, college: Lee) helped adding 22 points and 16 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field). The best for the losing side was guard Joni Harjula (189-83) with 26 points and 5 assists and guard Jukka-Pekka Vaananen (195-84) scored 22 points. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Pyrinto II's coach Tero Hassinen rotated twelve players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Oulun NMKY (2-1) moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Lapua. Pyrinto II at the other side, also newcomer in the league, dropped to the eighth position with two games lost. They share it with Jyvaskyla. Oulun NMKY will meet at home Ura Basket (#11) in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Pyrinto II will play against Aanekosken Huima in Aanekoski.
