There was a surprise result when twelfth ranked Real Madrid (2-1) beat higher ranked Blancos de Rueda (1-1) in Valladolid 84-72 on Sunday. It was a key game for the second position in the league. The game was mostly controlled by Real Madrid. Blancos de Rueda was better in fourth quarter 26-20. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Blancos de Rueda 37-26 including 29 on the defensive glass. Blancos de Rueda was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a good game for international guard Rudy Fernandez (197-85) who led his team to a victory with 28 points and 4 assists. Naturalized Montenegrin power forward Nikola Mirotic (209-91) contributed with 16 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. French-Ivorian forward Herve Toure (202-82) answered with 14 points and forward Nacho Martin (205-83) added 6 points and 10 rebounds in the effort for Blancos de Rueda. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Real Madrid moved-up to second place, which they share with 7 other teams. Loser Blancos de Rueda dropped to the tenth position with one game lost. Real Madrid will face Blusens Monbus (#4) in Santoago de Comp in the next round.
