Regular Season Round 1: Galil Gilboa - Maccabi T-A 60-95
Date: October 16, 2011
Everything could happen at the game between two tied teams. Both leader Maccabi T-A and bottom-ranked Galil Gilboa had identical 0-0 record. But Galil Gilboa was not able to use a home court advantage and was smashed by the opponent from Tel-Aviv 95-60 on Sunday night. It was a key game for the top position in the league. The game was mostly controlled by Maccabi T-A. Galil Gilboa was better in fourth quarter 23-20. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Maccabi T-A dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Galil Gilboa's 34. They outrebounded Galil Gilboa 33-20 including a 27-14 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a great shooting night for Maccabi T-A especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 55.6 percentage. The former international forward David Bluthenthal (201-80, college: USC) fired 21 points for the winners. American swingman Devin Smith (196-81, college: Virginia) chipped in 17 points and 5 rebounds. International center Ido Kozikaro (203-78) produced 17 points and American Courtney Fells (198-86, college: N.Carolina St., agency: Strategic Sports) added 13 points respectively for lost side. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Despite that victory Maccabi T-A went down to first position due to points difference, which they share with 4 other teams. Loser Galil Gilboa still closes the standings with one game lost. Maccabi T-A will face Ironi Ashkelon (#4) on the road in the next round. Galil Gilboa will play against Hapoel J-M in Jerusalem.
