Regular Season Round 9: Olimpico LB - Atenas 70-52

There was a minor upset when 4th placed Atenas (4-5) was defeated on the road by sixth ranked Olimpico de La Banda (4-5) 70-52 on Wednesday. The game was mostly controlled by Olimpico de La Banda. Atenas was better in second period 14-11. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Atenas 45-32 including 33 on the defensive glass. Naturalized Italian guard Eduardo Villares (188-79) stepped up and scored 19 points for the winners and Venezuelan forward Axiers Sucre (198-78) chipped in 7 points and 9 rebounds. The best for the losing side was Panamanian-Spanish power forward Ruben Garces (206-73, college: Providence, agency: Priority Sports) with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 12 rebounds and guard Miguel Gerlero (192-88) scored 12 points. Atenas' coach Sebastian Gonzalez let to play ten players seeing no chance for a win. Olimpico de La Banda moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Lanus and Atenas. Olimpico de La Banda will face again Atenas (#6) in Cordoba in the next round.
