The game had a very big importance for third-ranked Torpan Pojat as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Torpan Pojat smashed 11th ranked Namika Lahti in Helsinki 101-69. The game was mostly controlled by Torpan Pojat. Namika Lahti was better in third quarter 25-23. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Torpan Pojat dominated down low during the game scoring 74 of its points in the paint compared to Namika Lahti's 38. They outrebounded Namika Lahti 37-25 including a 33-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a good game for the former international power forward Hanno Mottola (209-76, college: Utah) who led his team to a victory with 18 points and 7 rebounds. Forward Timo Heinonen (198-81) contributed with 18 points and 6 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) for the winners. Torpan Pojat's coach Tomi Kaminen felt very confident that he used 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American forward Keena Young (198-85, college: BYU) replied with 18 points and 7 rebounds and his fellow American import guard Steven Wright (191-83, college: N.Kentucky, agency: Court Side) added 14 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Namika Lahti. Four Namika Lahti players scored in double figures. As mentioned above they took over a top position. Namika Lahti lost fifth consecutive game. They stay at the bottom place with five games lost. Namika Lahti will play next round against Tampereen Pyrinto trying to get back on the winning streak. Torpan Pojat will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game.
