Regular Season Round 3: Hawks - Blaze 58-83

8th ranked Wollongong Hawks (1-3) were outscored at home by eighth ranked Gold Coast Blaze (1-2) with the biggest margin this round 83-58 on Friday night. The game without a history. Gold Coast Blaze led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Wollongong Hawks' 30 and made 19-of-23 free shots (82.6 percent) during the game. Gold Coast Blaze forced 20 Wollongong Hawks turnovers and outrebounded them 38-26 including 26 on the defensive glass. The best player for the winners was the former international guard Chris Goulding (192-88) who scored 16 points. International guard Adam Gibson (188-86) chipped in 11 points, 6 assists and 5 steals. Four Gold Coast Blaze players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was American forward Joevan Catron (198-88, college: Oregon) who recorded 13 points and naturalized Greek guard Tyson Demos (191-88) added 10 points respectively. Wollongong Hawks' coach gave up on the game allowing to play eleven players seeing no chance for a win. Gold Coast Blaze left bottom position moving up to sixth place, which they share with Crocodiles. Loser Wollongong Hawks keep the eighth position with three games lost. Gold Coast Blaze will meet Townsville Crocodiles (#7) in the next round. Wollongong Hawks will play against Melbourne Tigers.
