A1 top team - Athinaikos (4-0) had no problems winning another game. This time they crushed ninth ranked PAOK (1-3) in Athens 77-57. The game was mostly controlled by Athinaikos. PAOK was better in fourth quarter 15-10. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The winners were led by international guard May Kay Kotsopoulos (178-88, college: Vermont) who scored that evening 19 points and international guard Dimitra Kalentzou (174-78) supported her with 17 points and 4 assists (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Athinaikos' coach Giorgos Zeygolis allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Even a double-double of 12 points and 13 rebounds by American power forward Diana Barnes (188-88, college: Miami, FL) did not help to save the game for PAOK. Swingman Stavroula Spanidou (180-84) added 14 points and 7 rebounds for lost side. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Athinaikos have a solid four-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains first position with 4-0 record, which they share with Esperides. PAOK lost third consecutive game. Newly promoted team keeps the ninth place with three games lost. They share the position with Aris. Athinaikos will play against Apollon Ptol. (#8) in Ptolemaida in the next round and are hoping to win another game. PAOK will play at home against Panionios in Athens to get more than just one victory in their record.
