Date: October 22, 2011
The most crucial game of the last round was the first loss of undefeated Gran Canaria (1-1) in Las Palmas on Saturday night. Hosts were rolled over by Perfumerias Avenida (2-0) 83-55. It was a key game for the top position in the league as both teams had the same 1-0 record before this meeting. The game was mostly controlled by Perfumerias Avenida. Gran Canaria managed to win third quarter 15-14. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Perfumerias Avenida dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Gran Canaria's 32. Perfumerias Avenida forced 22 Gran Canaria turnovers. Guard DeWanna Bonner (193-87, college: Auburn, agency: Josep and Nicolas) scored 21 points and 6 rebounds (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field) to lead the charge for the winners and international center Lucila Pascua (195-83) chipped in 16 points and 6 rebounds (perfect from the field making all seven shots !!!) during the contest. Power forward Vanessa Ble (190-91) responded with a double-double by scoring 13 points and 11 rebounds and American forward D'andra Moss (183-88, college: VCU) scored 17 points. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Perfumerias Avenida keeps a position of league leader, which they share with Ros Casares and Rivas Ecopolis. Gran Canaria at the other side dropped to the fourth place with one game lost. They share the position with 7 other teams. Perfumerias Avenida is looking forward to face Arranz-Jopisa Burgos (#6) at home in the next round where they are favorite.
