Very predictable result in San Sebastian where fourth ranked Pais Vasco (3-1) beat 10th ranked Orion-GDKO (1-3) 60-55 on Saturday. However just five-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 16-8. But Orion-GDKO won second period 13-7. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Pais Vasco won last quarter 20-16. Pais Vasco outrebounded Orion-GDKO 39-27 including 29 on the defensive glass. Point guard Maria Gomez (170-82) fired 25 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. Forward Onintza Aduriz (183-91) chipped in 17 points and 6 rebounds. American swingman Katie Gearlds (186-84, college: Purdue) produced 25 points and center Ana Roman (192-82) added 12 points and 8 rebounds respectively for lost side. Orion-GDKO's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Pais Vasco moved-up to second place in Group B, which they share with 4 other teams. Loser Orion-GDKO keeps the tenth position with three games lost. Pais Vasco will face Segle XXI (#9) in Barcelona in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Orion-GDKO will play on the road against ASEFA Estudiantes in Madrid and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
