There was no surprise in Mont de Marsan where 8th ranked Villeneuve D'Asco (2-3) was defeated by fourth ranked Basket Landes (4-1) 75-70 on Saturday. However just five-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. The hosts trailed by 5 points at the halftime before their 38-28 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Basket Landes made 19-of-24 free shots (79.2 percent) during the game. Basket Landes outrebounded Villeneuve D'Asco 36-22 including 22 on the defensive glass. American center Jennifer Humphrey (191-84, college: Kentucky, agency: Josep and Nicolas) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 16 rebounds for the winners and international swingman Marion Laborde (178-86) chipped in 23 points. Nigerian center Olayinka Sanni (188-86, college: W.Virginia, agency: Josep and Nicolas) responded with 19 points and 9 rebounds and the former international swingman Emilie Gomis (180-83) scored 20 points and 5 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Basket Landes have a solid series of four victories in a row. They moved-up to third place, which they share with Tarbes. Loser Villeneuve D'Asco keeps the eighth position with three games lost. Basket Landes will face league's second-placed Lattes Montpellier on the road in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Villeneuve D'Asco will play against Nice (#14).
