Regular Season Round 7: JX Sunflowers - Aishin AW 95-81

Very expected game in Kashiwa where 10th ranked Aishin Wings (1-6) were defeated by third ranked JX Sunflowers (5-2) 95-81. The game was mostly controlled by JX Sunflowers. Aishin Wings was better in second period 19-17. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. JX Sunflowers dominated down low during the game scoring 66 of its points in the paint compared to Aishin Wings' 40. JX Sunflowers had a 28-16 advantage in offensive rebounds. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 22 assists. It was a very good performance for swingman Masaru Honda (175-89) who helped to win the game recording 19 points and 5 rebounds. International center Hiromi Suwa (183-85) contributed with 18 points (perfect from the field making all eight shots !!!) for the winners. Guard Koizumi Haruka (164-89) answered with 16 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals and international swingman Tanaka Masaki (171-88) added 18 points and 7 rebounds in the effort for Aishin Wings. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players saving starting five for next games. Defending champion maintains third place with 5-2 record behind leader Fujitsu RW. Aishin Wings lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the bottom position with six games lost. JX Sunflowers' next round opponent will be again bottom-ranked Aishin Wings (#8) in Anjo which should be theoretically an easy game.
