Regular Season Round 3: Mitsubishi DD - Hokkaido L. 93-68
Date: October 23, 2011
There was a minor upset in Nagoya where 4th placed Hokkaido L. (4-3) was crushed by sixth ranked Mitsubishi Dolphins (3-4) 93-68 on Sunday. The hosts trailed by 3 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 13-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 93-68. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Mitsubishi Dolphins made 7 blocks. It was a great evening for American forward Ron Hale (203-77, college: Florida St.) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 10 rebounds. Guard Zyun Abe (177-86) helped adding 12 points. Four Mitsubishi Dolphins players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was Senegalese swingman Mamadou Diouf (197-77, college: Delaware) with a double-double by scoring 11 points and 11 rebounds and German power forward Tilo Klette (206-77) scored 18 points. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Mitsubishi Dolphins moved-up to fifth place. Loser Hokkaido L. keeps the fourth position with three games lost. Mitsubishi Dolphins will face bottom-ranked Toshiba Thunders (#8) in Kanagawa in the next round. Hokkaido L. will play at home against the league's leader Toyota Alvark (#1) in Fuchu.
