Regular Season Round 3: Panasonic T. - Hitachi SR 71-78

Another exciting game was again a derby between two local teams from Osaka: Hitachi Sunrockers (#2) and Panasonic Trians (#5). Panasonic Trians were defeated at home 71-78 and even the fact of playing on their own court did not help. Panasonic Trians were trailing by 5 points at halftime but managed to get 2-point lead after three quarters before a 32-23 charge of Hitachi Sunrockers, which allowed them to win the game. The best player for the winners was international power forward Joji Takeuchi (206-85, agency: N.E.T.) who had a double-double by scoring 18 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists. International guard Fumio Nishimura (177-86) chipped in 15 points. Hitachi Sunrockers' coach used an eleven-player rotation saving starting five for next games. At the other side the best for losing team was international swingman Kosuke Kanamaru (193-89) who recorded 27 points and 5 rebounds (went 11 for 11 at the free throw line !!!) and guard Hironori Watanabe (180-88) added 16 points and 5 rebounds respectively. Hitachi Sunrockers have a solid series of four victories in a row. They maintain second place with 5-1 record behind leader Toyota Alvark. Loser Panasonic Trians dropped to the sixth position with five games lost. Hitachi Sunrockers will meet at home Tochigi Brex (#7) in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Panasonic Trians will play against Aishin Sea Horses in Kariya and hope to secure a win.
