Regular Season Round 4: Taipans - Hawks 64-69

Date: October 28, 2011
Very important is a home loss of third ranked Cairns Taipans (2-2) against seventh ranked Wollongong Hawks (2-4) on Friday night. Host Cairns Taipans were defeated by Wollongong Hawks in a tough game in Cairns 64-69. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 21-18. But Cairns Taipans won second period 18-17. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Worth to mention a great performance of guard Rhys Martin (193-86, college: Nova SE) who helped to win the game recording 12 points and 9 assists and swingman Timothy Coenraad (201-85, college: Nova SE) who added 16 points and 6 rebounds during the contest. At the losing side the former international swingman Brad Hill (198-86) responded with 19 points and 7 rebounds and American point guard Jamar Wilson (185-84, college: Albany, agency: Pro One Sports) scored 10 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Wollongong Hawks maintains seventh position with 2-4 record. Loser Cairns Taipans dropped to the fourth place with two games lost. They share the position with Crocodiles. Wollongong Hawks will meet league's second-placed Perth Wildcats on the road in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Cairns Taipans will play against Melbourne Tigers and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
