Regular Season Round 9: Kouvot - ToPo 87-77

There was a change at the Korisliiga leadership position after last games. Round 9 most important game was a defeat of league's leader Torpan Pojat (5-2). They were defeated by eighth ranked Kouvot (4-4) 87-77 on Saturday night. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Torpan Pojat. The game was mostly controlled by Kouvot. Torpan Pojat managed to win third quarter 20-18. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Power forward Samuli Vanttaja (210-91) stepped up and scored 17 points and 6 rebounds for the winners and American guard Josh Gonner (188-82, college: S.Carolina) chipped in 17 points. The best for the losing side was American swingman Jonathan Heard (198-86) with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 10 rebounds and forward Timo Heinonen (198-81) scored 15 points and 6 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Kouvot moved-up to sixth place, which they share with KTP and Korihait. Torpan Pojat at the other side dropped to the second position with two games lost. They share it with Nilan Bisons. They were replaced at the leadership position by Pyrinto. Torpan Pojat will play next round against Salon Vilpas trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Kouvot will try to continue on its current victory against first ranked Tampereen Pyrinto on the road.
