Regular Season Round 5: Gernika - Cravic Reus 66-59

Everything went according to plan when twelfth ranked Gernika (2-3) defeated at home bottom-ranked Cravic Reus (0-5) 66-59 on Saturday. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Cravic Reus won third quarter 17-16. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Gernika dominated on the defensive end, holding Cravic Reus to just 7 points in second quarter. They made 17-of-21 free shots (81.0 percent) during the game. American guard Alysha Harvin (178-88, college: Florida St.) orchestrated the victory by scoring 16 points. Her fellow American import forward Tynikki Crook (185-89, college: Marshall) contributed with 12 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. Gernika's coach allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Senegalese forward Awa Doumbia (182-79) answered with 17 points and 6 rebounds and forward Ana Moreno (183-79) added 8 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals in the effort for Cravic Reus. Gernika moved-up to ninth place in Group B, which they share with Las Rozas. Loser Cravic Reus still closes the standings with five games lost. Gernika will face higher ranked Space Tanit Eivissa (#7) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Cravic Reus will play against ASEFA Estudiantes (#11) in Madrid and hopes to get finally their first victory.
