Regular Season Round 6: Weert - Groningen 77-78

Very expected game when bottom-ranked Weert (0-4) was edged at home by first ranked Groningen (5-1) 78-77 on Saturday. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Weert won third quarter 15-13. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Groningen looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. It was a good game for American guard Alex Wesby (196-80, college: Temple, agency: R.H.Consultancy) who saved his team from a defeat with 18 points and 9 rebounds. The former international point guard Bryan Defares (192-81, college: Boise St.) contributed with 17 points and 6 assists for the winners. Groningen's coach Hakim Salem used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. American guard DeMario Anderson (193-85, college: Quinnipiac, agency: Court Side) replied with a double-double by scoring 21 points, 11 rebounds, 7 assists and 4 steals and his fellow American import guard Robbie Harman (185-88, college: Cent.Michigan, agency: Court Side) added 19 points and 4 assists in the effort for Weert. Four Weert players scored in double figures. Groningen have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 5-1 record. Loser Weert still closes the standings with four games lost. Groningen will face Den Bosch (#4) at home in the next round. Weert will play against Rotterdam (#7) and hopes to get finally their first victory.
