Regular Season Round 9: JX Sunflowers - Mitsubishi K. 76-58

Leader JX Sunflowers delivered the seventh win on Saturday night. This time they beat 7th ranked Mitsubishi K. (2-7) 76-58 in Kashiwa. The hosts trailed by 5 points at the halftime before their 45-22 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. JX Sunflowers dominated on the defensive end, holding Mitsubishi K. to just 4 points in third quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Mitsubishi K.'s 18 and made 16-of-21 free shots (76.2 percent) during the game. JX Sunflowers forced 22 Mitsubishi K. turnovers and outrebounded them 51-35 including a 18-7 advantage in offensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was power forward Lynn Kibayashi (184-89) who scored 8 points and 16 rebounds. Swingman Masaru Honda (175-89) chipped in 17 points. JX Sunflowers' coach used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. JX Sunflowers have a solid series of three victories in a row. Defending champion maintains first place with 7-2 record, which they share with Fujitsu RW and Toyota A. Mitsubishi K. lost seventh consecutive game. They keep the seventh position with seven games lost. JX Sunflowers is again looking forward to face Mitsubishi K. (#7) in Nagoya in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Mitsubishi K. will have a break next round.
