Regular Season Round 3: Lucca - Taranto 66-58

There was a minor upset when 3rd placed Taranto (2-1) was defeated on the road by fifth ranked Lucca (2-1) 66-58 on Sunday. Taranto trailed by 13 points after 3 quarters before a 16-11 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 58-66 at the end of the game. It was a great evening for Portuguese forward Mery Andrade (181-75, college: ODU) who led her team to a victory scoring 16 points and 5 rebounds. American power forward Courtney Willis (188-82, college: E.Carolina, agency: LBM Management) helped adding 13 points. The best for the losing side was American center Kia Vaughn (193-87, college: Rutgers) with 7 points and 8 rebounds and the former international guard Giorgia Sottana (177-88) scored 12 points. Taranto's coach Roberto Ricchini rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Lucca moved-up to second place, which they share with 5 other teams including defeated Taranto. Lucca will face bottom-ranked Priolo (#12) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Taranto will play against the league's leader Umbertide (#1) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
