Another exciting game for Ironi Ashkelon (2-1) which played in Jerusalem against Hapoel J-M (1-2). Fourth ranked Ironi Ashkelon saved the game by a tiny margin of two points 95-93. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Hapoel J-M won third quarter 21-19. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Ironi Ashkelon made 16-of-21 charity shots (76.2 percent) during the game. Ironi Ashkelon outrebounded Hapoel J-M 37-24 including 26 on the defensive glass. It was a great evening for American swingman Dwayne Mitchell (196-82, college: La-Lafayette, agency: Interperformances) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 18 points, 12 rebounds and 6 assists. His fellow American import power forward J.Raymar Morgan (202-88, college: Michigan St.) helped adding 16 points and 9 rebounds. The best for the losing side was American guard D.J. Strawberry (196-85, college: Maryland) with 24 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists and international point guard Yuval Naimy (188-85) scored 20 points and 4 assists. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Hapoel J-M's coach Oded Katash rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Ironi Ashkelon moved-up to second place, which they share with Hapoel Holon and B.C. Habikaa. Hapoel J-M at the other side dropped to the seventh position with two games lost. They share it with 3 other teams. Ironi Ashkelon will play against Maccabi Haifa (#7) at home in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Hapoel J-M will play against Elitzur Netanya to get more than just one victory in their record.
