Important game to mention about took place in Veracruz. Sixth ranked Soles (12-9) saved a 1-point victory on the road edging second-best Halcones Rojos (14-3) 68-67 on Tuesday evening. It ended at the same time the nine-game winning streak of Halcones Rojos. The guests were tied after three quarters but managed to speed up in last quarter eventually winning the game. Strangely Halcones Rojos outrebounded Soles 44-29 including 16 on the offensive glass. American center Greg Smith (208-91, college: Fresno St.) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 12 rebounds for the winners and Venezuelan point guard David Cubillan (183-87, college: Marquette) chipped in 15 points. The best for the losing side was Venezuelan power forward Luis Bethelmy (200-86) with 14 points and 8 rebounds and Puerto Rican point guard Carlos Rivera (187-83, college: Hofstra, agency: Paris Global Sports) scored 11 points and 7 rebounds. Halcones Rojos' coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Soles maintains sixth place with 12-9 record. Halcones Rojos at the other side keep the second position with three games lost. Soles will play against Halcones UV Xalapa (#8) on the road in the next round. Halcones Rojos will play against Aguilas Rojas (#13) in San Juan and hope to get back on the winning track.
