An interesting game for VEF Riga (6-0) which played road game in Jurmala against 3rd ranked Jurmala (2-2). Top-ranked VEF Riga had an easy win 109-60. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Jurmala. The game without a history. VEF Riga led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to Jurmala's 40 and made 26-of-31 free shots (83.9 percent) during the game. VEF Riga had a 41-26 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. 25 personal fouls committed by Jurmala helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was a good game for the former international power forward Kaspars Berzins (213-85) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 10 rebounds. American center Courtney Sims (211-83, college: Michigan) contributed with 18 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Five VEF Riga players scored in double figures. Forward Atis Ozols (198-81) replied with 23 points and 6 rebounds and guard Davis Coders (182-92) added 11 points in the effort for Jurmala. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. VEF Riga have an impressive six-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains first position with 6-0 record. Newly promoted Jurmala dropped to the fourth place with two games lost. VEF Riga will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Jurmala will play on the road against Valmiera (#3) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
