Twelfth ranked LKS Sphinx won an overtime thriller against higher ranked Zastal ZG by one point 104-103. The game took place in Zielona Gora. But the guests from Lodz were better at the end. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Zastal ZG. The guests were ahead by 2 points but lost the second period ending it with a 11-point deficit before their 30-19 run, which allowed them to tie the game at the end of regular time. They were better in overtime eventually winning that period 15-14. LKS Sphinx made 20-of-24 charity shots (83.3 percent) during the game. Strangely Zastal ZG outrebounded LKS Sphinx 45-33 including 16 on the offensive glass. American center Kirk Archibeque (205-84, college: Fort Lewis, agency: Hart Sports Mngm) saved the victory by scoring 28 points and 9 rebounds (on 12-of-14 shooting from the field). The other American import guard Jermaine Mallett (190-88, college: Missouri St., agency: Interperformances) contributed with 19 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. Nigerian forward Gani Lawal (206-88, college: Georgia Tech) replied with a double-double by scoring 27 points and 18 rebounds (on 12-of-14 shooting from the field) and Ivorian-Puerto Rican point guard Walter Hodge (183-86, college: Florida) added 18 points and 7 assists in the effort for Zastal ZG. Four LKS Sphinx and five Zastal ZG players scored in double figures. Zastal ZG's coach Tomasz Jankowski rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. LKS Sphinx (2-5) moved-up to ninth place, which they share with Slask Wroclaw and Siarka Jezioro. Zastal ZG at the other side dropped to the fifth position with two games lost. LKS Sphinx will play against league's leader PGE Turow in Zgorzelec in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Zastal ZG will play on the road against the league's second-placed Anwil (#2) and will have a slim chance for a victory.
