Leader New Zealand Breakers delivered the fifth victory. This time they beat 8th ranked Adelaide 36ers (1-4) 99-90 in Auckland. The hosts were already 16 points ahead after 3 quarters before a 28-21 Adelaide 36ers' run in the last quarter cut the lead to 99-90 at the end of the game. New Zealand Breakers players were unselfish on offense dishing 23 assists. Adelaide 36ers were plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. The game was dominated by American players. Forward Gary Wilkinson (206-82, college: Utah St.) orchestrated the victory by scoring 29 points and 9 rebounds. Guard Cedric Jackson (191-86, college: Cleveland St.) contributed with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 11 assists for the winners. Forward Diamon Simpsons (201-87, college: St.Mary's, CA) answered with 20 points and 8 rebounds (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field) and guard Chris Warren (176-88, college: Mississippi) added 17 points in the effort for Adelaide 36ers. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. New Zealand Breakers maintains first place with 5-1 record, which they share with Tigers. Adelaide 36ers at the other side dropped to the bottom position with four games lost. New Zealand Breakers will play against Wollongong Hawks (#7) in Gwynneville in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Adelaide 36ers will play at home against Kings in Sydney to get more than just one victory in their record.
