No shocking result in a game when third ranked Adelaide Lightning (5-2) beat on the road 7th ranked Bendigo Spirit (2-4) 81-72 on Saturday. Bendigo Spirit trailed by 13 points after 3 quarters before a 23-19 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 72-81 at the end of the game. They outrebounded Bendigo Spirit 39-27 including 26 on the defensive glass. Adelaide Lightning looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. The former international center Suzy Batkovic-Brown (193-80) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 17 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists. International center Abby Bishop (189-88) contributed with 20 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Four Adelaide Lightning players scored in double figures. Adelaide Lightning's coach Peter Buckle allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. International guard Deanna Smith (179-80) answered with 27 points and 6 rebounds and guard Kelly Wilson (170-84) added 11 points and 4 assists in the effort for Bendigo Spirit. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Adelaide Lightning. They maintain third place with 5-2 record behind leader Sydney UF. Loser Bendigo Spirit keeps the seventh position with four games lost. Adelaide Lightning will face Dandenong Rangers (#5) at home in the next round. Bendigo Spirit will play against Canberra Capitals and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
