Regular Season Round 8: Shinshu BW - Sendai 89ers 85-87

Important game to mention about took place in Nagano. Seventh ranked Sendai 89ers (4-3) saved a 2-point victory on the road edging one of their biggest challengers Shinshu BW (4-3) 87-85 in the game for the third place. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Shinshu BW. The guests were ahead by 5 points but lost the second period ending it with a 3-point deficit before their 25-20 run, which allowed them to win the game. The game was also dominated by American players. Forward Oneal Mims (208-83, college: Angelo St.) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 13 rebounds. Forward Johnny Dukes (203-84, college: San Bernardino CC) contributed with 21 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners. Guard Derek Raivio (190-84, college: Gonzaga, agency: Priority Sports) replied with 23 points and 4 assists and forward Tyler Hughes (213-84, college: Kansas St.) added 16 points and 9 rebounds (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field) in the effort for Shinshu BW. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Sendai 89ers moved-up to third place, which they share with defeated Shinshu BW. Sendai 89ers will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Shinshu BW will play again at home against Sendai 89ers and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
