Regular Season Round 5: Mitsubishi DD - Toyota Alvark 71-91

Everything went according to plan in Nagoya where second ranked Toyota Alvark (9-1) outleveled 4th placed Mitsubishi Dolphins (5-5) 91-71 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Toyota Alvark. Mitsubishi Dolphins was better in third quarter 21-18. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Toyota Alvark dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Mitsubishi Dolphins' 28. They outrebounded Mitsubishi Dolphins 43-23 including a 17-3 advantage in offensive rebounds. It was a great shooting night for Toyota Alvark especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 56.3 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. The best player for the winners was American forward Jeff Gibbs (188-80, college: Otterbein) who scored 21 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists. International power forward Kosuke Takeuchi (206-85) chipped in 15 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. American forward Ron Hale (203-77, college: Florida St.) produced 16 points and the former international guard Kei Igarashi (180-80) added 12 points respectively for the hosts. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Toyota Alvark have an impressive series of nine victories in a row. They keep a position of league leader. Mitsubishi Dolphins at the other side keep the fourth place with five games lost. Toyota Alvark will face Hitachi Sunrockers (#3) in Osaka in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Mitsubishi Dolphins will play at home against the league's second-placed Aishin Sea Horses in Kariya and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
