Date: November 5, 2011
Everything could happen in Osaka at the game between two tied teams. Both first ranked Aishin Sea Horses and 3rd placed Hitachi Sunrockers had identical 7-2 record. But Hitachi Sunrockers were not able to use a home court advantage and were defeated by the opponent from Kariya 70-66 on Saturday night. The guests trailed by 1 point at the halftime before their 19-13 charge in the third quarter, which allowed them to win the game. Aishin Sea Horses made 18-of-22 free shots (81.8 percent) during the game. Aishin Sea Horses outrebounded Hitachi Sunrockers 42-28 including 30 on the defensive glass. The best player for the winners was the former international power forward J.R. Sakuragi (206-76, college: UCLA) who had a double-double by scoring 20 points and 13 rebounds (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line). Jamaican center Kevin Young (206-84, college: Missouri) chipped in 14 points and 7 rebounds. Four Aishin Sea Horses players scored in double figures. International power forward Joji Takeuchi (206-85, agency: N.E.T.) produced 18 points and 6 rebounds and international guard Fumio Nishimura (177-86) added 15 points respectively for the hosts. Hitachi Sunrockers' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Aishin Sea Horses have a solid series of three victories in a row. Despite that victory Aishin Sea Horses went down to second position due to points difference. Hitachi Sunrockers at the other side keep the third place with three games lost. Aishin Sea Horses will face Mitsubishi Dolphins (#4) in Nagoya in the next round. Hitachi Sunrockers will play on the road against the league's leader Toyota Alvark in Fuchu and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
