Regular Season Round 4: MIA Academy - Armia 62-100
Date: November 5, 2011
Another interesting game was a derby match between two teams from Tbilisi: Armia (#3) and MIA (#6). MIA was smashed at home by 38 points 62-100 and even the fact of playing on their own court did not help. It looked good early as MIA took an 7-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Armia had a 25-9 second period charge getting the lead and MIA was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 62-100. Armia dominated down low during the game scoring 64 of its points in the paint compared to MIA's 42. Armia forced 21 MIA turnovers. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 30 assists comparing to just 14 passes made by MIA's players. Worth to mention a great performance of American forward Will Thomas (203-86) who helped to win the game recording 23 points and 8 rebounds and the other American import point guard Sundiata Gaines (185-86, college: Georgia, agency: Strategic Sports) who added 14 points, 5 rebounds and 12 assists during the contest. Four Armia players scored in double figures. At the losing side American guard Robo Kreps (182-88, college: Ill.-Chicago, agency: N.E.T.) responded with 24 points and power forward Akaki Dvalishvili (206-90) scored 11 points and 8 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Armia have a solid three-game winning streak. Defending champion (3-0) keeps a position of league leader. MIA at the other side dropped to the seventh place with two games lost. They share the position with Samedicino. Armia's supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Tbilisi TSU.
