Regular Season Round 11: Denso Iris - Aishin AW 60-59

Eighth-ranked Aishin Wings (1-10) gave a tough game to third ranked Denso Iris (8-3) in Kariya. Denso Iris managed to secure only one-point victory 60-59. However their fans expected much easier game. The hosts were ahead by 1 point but lost the second period ending it with a 1-point deficit before their 15-13 run, which allowed them to win the game. Denso Iris dominated on the defensive end, holding Aishin Wings to just 6 points in first quarter. They outrebounded Aishin Wings 42-23 including a 25-14 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was an exceptional evening for international center Maki Takada (183-89) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 37 points (!!!) and 16 rebounds. The former international guard Akiko Obata (165-81) accounted for 6 points, 5 rebounds and 9 assists for the winning side. Forward Yuka Maeda (173-84) came up with 17 points and power forward Kumi Yamamoto (179-85) added 12 points and 5 rebounds respectively for Aishin Wings in the defeat. Four Aishin Wings players scored in double figures. The victory was the sixth consecutive win for Denso Iris. They maintain third place with 8-3 record behind leader JX Sunflowers. Aishin Wings lost their seventh game in a row. They stay at the bottom position with ten games lost. Denso Iris will again play against bottom-ranked Aishin Wings (#8) in Anjo in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Aishin Wings will have a break next round.
