The game had a very big importance for third-ranked Melbourne Tigers as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Melbourne Tigers defeated 5th ranked Cairns Taipans at home 80-63. The game was mostly controlled by Melbourne Tigers. Cairns Taipans managed to win fourth quarter 24-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The best player for the winners was international power forward Cameron Tragardh (209-83, college: ORU) who scored 17 points and 9 rebounds. The former international forward Tommy Greer (201-83, college: Nova SE) chipped in 13 points and 9 rebounds. Four Melbourne Tigers players scored in double figures. Melbourne Tigers' coach Trevor Gleeson used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American point guard Jamar Wilson (185-84, college: Albany, agency: Pro One Sports) produced 19 points and 6 rebounds and the former international power forward Alexander Loughton (205-83, college: ODU) added 12 points and 5 rebounds respectively for the guests. Melbourne Tigers have a solid series of four victories in a row. As mentioned above they are at the top of the standings, which they share with Breakers. Cairns Taipans at the other side keep the fifth place with three games lost. Cairns Taipans will play next round against strong Perth Wildcats trying to get back on the winning streak. Melbourne Tigers will try to continue on its current victory against fourth ranked Townsville Crocodiles in Wulguru.
