There was a minor upset when higher ranked Scavolini Pesaro (2-2) was defeated at home by thirteenth ranked Umana Venezia (2-2) 71-58 on Sunday. The guests trailed by 2 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 7-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 71-58. Umana Venezia made 20-of-24 free shots (83.3 percent) during the game. The best player for the winners was American guard Timothy Bowers (188-82, college: Mississippi St.) who scored 15 points and 7 rebounds. American-Bulgarian point guard Kiki Clark (173-84, college: St.Peter's) chipped in 17 points. Umana Venezia's coach Andrea Mazzon used entire bench and allowed the starting five to rest. The former international guard Daniel Hackett (197-87, college: USC) produced 19 points and 6 steals and American forward Jumaine Jones (202-79, college: Georgia) added 11 points and 11 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Umana Venezia moved-up to eighth place, which they share with Benetton TV and Scavolini PS. Umana Venezia will face Banca Tercas (#15) in Teramo in the next round and are hoping to win another game.
