A very interesting game took place in Saitama. It ended with only two-point home defeat of 8th ranked Saitama Broncos (3-5) to third ranked Okinawa GK (6-2) 85-83 on Sunday evening. Guest team only slightly avoided a big embarassment. Saitama Broncos were ahead by 1 point at the halftime before a 23-13 third quarter run of Okinawa GK. American center Jeff Newton (205-81, college: Indiana) nailed a double-double by scoring 20 points and 10 rebounds for the winning side and guard Narito Namizato (175-89) accounted for 9 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Okinawa GK's coach allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. American swingman John Humphrey (188-80, college: Middle Tenn.St., agency: Court Side) came up with 40 points (!!!), 7 rebounds and 4 assists and the other American import forward John Flowers (200-89, college: W.Virginia, agency: KMG Sports Management) added 26 points and 9 rebounds respectively for Saitama Broncos in the defeat. Okinawa GK keeps a position of league leader, which they share with 3 other teams. Saitama Broncos lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the sixth place with five games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
