Everything went according to plan in Mar del Plata where fourth ranked Penarol (8-5) beat 8th ranked Quilmes MP (2-10) 87-72 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by Penarol. Quilmes MP was better in third quarter 20-19. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Worth to mention a great performance of guard Selem Safar (190-87) who helped to win the game recording 18 points and the former international forward Marcos Mata (202-86) who added 10 points and 8 rebounds during the contest. Four Penarol players scored in double figures. Penarol's coach Sergio Hernandez used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The best for the losing side was American forward Britton Johnsen (208-79, college: Utah, agency: Priority Sports) with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 12 rebounds and naturalized American guard Phillip McHopson (188-87, college: Idaho) scored 16 points and 5 assists. Defending champion moved-up to third place. Quilmes MP lost seventh consecutive game. Newly promoted team keeps the eighth position with ten games lost. Penarol will face GECR Indalo (#6) in Comodoro R. in the next round. Quilmes MP will play on the road against Club 9 in Rio Tercero and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
