Regular Season Round 6: Bendigo S. - Canberra C. 63-59

Date: November 11, 2011
Rather expected game when 9th ranked Canberra Capitals (2-7) were defeated on the road by seventh ranked Bendigo Spirit (3-4) 63-59 on Friday. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 17-8. But Canberra Capitals won third quarter 25-13. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Bendigo Spirit won last quarter 15-13. They also forced 23 Canberra Capitals turnovers. International guard Deanna Smith (179-80) scored 19 points and 5 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and the former international guard Kristi Harrower (166-75) chipped in 12 points during the contest. The best for the losing side was international center Marianna Tolo (196-89) with 9 points and 14 rebounds and the former international guard Nicole Hunt (167-88) scored 15 points and 6 rebounds. Bendigo Spirit maintains seventh position with 3-4 record. Canberra Capitals lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the eighth place with seven games lost. Bendigo Spirit will face league's second-placed Townsville Fire at home in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Canberra Capitals will play against AIS (#10) in Belconnen and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
