Regular Season Round 3: TWU - Winnipeg 78-77

Everything could happen in Langley, BC at the game between two tied teams. Both ninth ranked Spartans and 11th ranked Wesmen had identical 1-2 record. This time Spartans used a home court advantage and edged the opponent from Winnipeg, MB 78-77 on Friday night. Spartans forced 27 Wesmen turnovers and outrebounded them 38-26 including 26 on the defensive glass. Wesmen was plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a good game for American guard Tristan Smith (183-86) who saved his team from a defeat with 22 points, 5 rebounds and 8 assists. Guard Sean Peter (191) contributed with 18 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. Guard Dominique Brown (193) answered with 21 points, 5 assists and 6 steals and point guard Travis Krahn (183) added 15 points in the effort for Wesmen. Both coaches allowed to play bench players in such tough game. Spartans (2-2) moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Calgary and TRU. Wesmen lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the fifth position with three games lost. Spartans will face Bisons (#11) in Winnipeg, MB in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Wesmen will play on the road against Cascades (#4) in Abbotsford, BC and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
