Regular Season Round 4: UFV - Winnipeg 89-69

Not a big story in a game when 11th ranked Wesmen (1-3) was outscored by fifth ranked Cascades (3-1) in Abbotsford, BC 89-69 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Cascades. Wesmen was better in third quarter 21-18. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Cascades dominated down low during the game scoring 48 of its points in the paint compared to Wesmen's 20. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. Wesmen was plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a very good performance for guard Joel Friesen (193) who helped to win the game recording 12 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists. Power forward Michael James (198) contributed with 18 points for the winners. Five Cascades players scored in double figures. American forward Benny Iko (198) replied with a double-double by scoring 13 points and 13 rebounds and point guard Travis Krahn (183) added 17 points in the effort for Wesmen. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Cascades moved-up to second place, which they share with Lethbridge and Alberta. Wesmen lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the fifth position with three games lost. Cascades will face Heat (#13) in Kelowna, BC in the next round which should be another easy win for them. Wesmen will play at home against the league's second-placed Golden Bears (#2) in Edmonton, AB.
