Regular Season Round 8: Las Gaunas - Gernika 68-62

No shocking result in a game when seventh ranked Las Gaunas (5-3) beat 10th ranked Gernika (2-5) in Logrono 68-62 on Saturday. Gernika was trailing by 3 points at halftime but managed to get 3-point lead after three quarters before a 17-8 charge of Las Gaunas, which allowed them to win the game. They made 21-of-27 free shots (77.8 percent) during the game, while Gernika only scored 0 point from the stripe. They outrebounded Gernika 37-22 including a 27-12 advantage in defensive rebounds. Paula Estebas Armas (-93) orchestrated the victory by scoring 16 points and 6 rebounds. American power forward Genai Walker (190-82, college: Cent.Arkansas) contributed with 11 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. American forward Tynikki Crook (185-89, college: Marshall) replied with 14 points and 8 rebounds and point guard Judith Monasterio (170-84) added 8 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists in the effort for Gernika. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Las Gaunas moved-up to sixth place in Group B, which they share with Eivissa. Newly promoted Gernika dropped to the eleventh position with five games lost. Las Gaunas will face Cravic Reus (#14) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Gernika will play against Conquero in Huelva.
