Regular Season Round 6: Toyota Alvark - Hitachi SR 52-65

The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of top-ranked Toyota Alvark (10-2) in Fuchu on Saturday night. Hosts were defeated by third ranked Hitachi Sunrockers (8-4) 65-52. It ended at the same time the ten-game winning streak of Toyota Alvark. The guests trailed by 2 points at the halftime before their 36-21 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Hitachi Sunrockers dominated on the defensive end, holding Toyota Alvark to just 6 points in third quarter. It was a good game for American power forward Jamar Smith (206-80, college: Maryland) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 12 rebounds (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field). International power forward Joji Takeuchi (206-85, agency: N.E.T.) contributed with 11 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. American forward Philip Ricci (202-80, college: Oregon St.) replied with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 12 rebounds and his fellow American import forward Jeff Gibbs (188-80, college: Otterbein) added 10 points and 8 rebounds in the effort for Toyota Alvark. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Hitachi Sunrockers maintains third position with 8-4 record having just two points less than leader Aishin SH. Toyota Alvark at the other side still keeps top place with two games lost. They share the position with Aishin SH. Hitachi Sunrockers are looking forward to face Mitsubishi Dolphins (#4) in Nagoya in the next round. Toyota Alvark will play on the road against the league's leader Aishin Sea Horses in Kariya and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
