No shocking result in a game in Aguascalientes where fifth ranked Barreteros (14-10) defeated 12th ranked Panteras (7-17) 76-72 on Saturday. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 22-15. But Panteras won second period 19-13. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The best player for the winners was American guard Melvin Council (191-82, college: Robert Morris) who scored 25 points. The other American import forward James Reaves (203-82, college: Niagara, agency: TSS Management) chipped in a double-double by scoring 13 points, 12 rebounds and 6 assists. Puerto Rican point guard Ricardo Melendez (180-83, agency: TSS Management) produced 23 points and American swingman Samuel Bowie (198-75, college: SE Louisiana) added 17 points and 6 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Barreteros maintains fifth position with 14-10 record. Panteras lost seventh consecutive game. They keep the twelfth place with 17 games lost. Barreteros will face Halcones UV Xalapa (#8) on the road in the next round. Panteras will play against the league's second-placed Halcones Rojos (#2) in Veracruz.
