Regular Season Round 11: Sendai 89ers - Toyama Grouses 88-84 OT

Toyama Grouses (#6) forced the game against Sendai 89ers (#3) into an overtime, but lost by four points 84-88 on Saturday night. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Toyama Grouses. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 20-13. But Toyama Grouses won second period 21-18. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening, at least not yet. The game turned upside-down in the last quarter, where Toyama Grouses used huge pressure winning it 23-21 getting a tie at the end of regular time. They lost eventually overtime period 6-10. It was a great evening for American forward Johnny Dukes (203-84, college: San Bernardino CC) who led his team to a victory scoring 21 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. His fellow American import forward Daniel Fitzgerald (206-84, college: Marquette) helped adding 23 points. Fitzgerald is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Four Sendai 89ers players scored in double figures. Sendai 89ers' coach Robert Pierce used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. American forward Ira Brown (193-82, college: Gonzaga, agency: Dream Team Management) responded with 21 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals and guard Takeshi Mito (184-85) scored 17 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists. Sendai 89ers have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Shiga L-Stars and Shimane SM. Toyama Grouses at the other side keep the sixth position with five games lost. Sendai 89ers will face again Toyama Grouses (#6) at home in the next round.
