There was a small surprise when tenth ranked Terme di Cervia (3-4) defeated at home 7th ranked Alghero (3-4) 53-45 on Saturday. The hosts trailed by 2 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 3-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 53-45. Terme di Cervia forced 19 Alghero turnovers. Guard Valeria Rossi (171-83) fired 10 points for the winners. point guard Francesca Santarelli (172-94) chipped in 10 points. Terme di Cervia's coach used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. Guard Elisa Donati (170-80) produced 17 points and 5 steals and center Costanza Giorgi (185-89) added 11 points and 8 rebounds respectively for lost side. Terme di Cervia moved-up to fifth place in North, which they share with 3 other teams including defeated Alghero. Terme di Cervia will face Pall.Piemonte (#6) at home in the next round. Alghero will play against Milano and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
